How To Beat Depression

by Steve Hill

I am free at last, free from the depression that has clouded the majority of my life. I am now able to sleep at night, look at myself in the mirror and smile, look forward to each and every day as well as the future, and to think happy thoughts. Life was not always like this, in fact it has only been this way for the last six months. In this article I willl write about how I managed to successfully eradicate my own depression, information that I hope will prove to be of great benefit to other people in a similar situation.

There were numerous reaons as to why I felt depressed. Even though I have never been classed as a handicaped person, at times it felt as though I was. This is because of the fact that I grew up with a stutter. Stuttering or stammering, as some people call it, made my life some what more difficult than it could have been. My self-confidence and self-esteem were shot to pieces as I was unable to get my words out fluently. I will never forget the pain that I used to feel, when for example, I was asked to read out a paragraph in front of the class at school. I would stutter on seemingly every other word and this would ultimately end up with a number of people laughing at me. The anger I felt towards them and the world at large was immense.

The stutter was just one of a number of problems that I had. I will refrain from going into each and everyone of them as it would take me all night. I would regularly feel sorry for myself as my life was being dictated to by the all of these issues. I struggled to meet girls, struggled to get work, and also found socialising with friends to be very hard, for obvious reasons.

At the age of twenty-two I decided to attempt to face up to and deal with each and every one of my problems. I was determined for a better life. After a lot of hard work I managed to eradicate the stutter and also to accept some of the other issues.

I now like myself, I now feel grateful for the cards that I have been dealt in life and the depression has been kicked into touch.
